AMBITION

DTD PREMIERS OUR FIRST EVER EVENING LENGTH DANCE CONCERT, AMBITION

AMBITION is a story of transformation, taking inspiration from a rock landscape titled the Ambition Masterpiece. It’s descriptive story of being rebuilt 5 time before standing strong on the 6th becomes our reminder that if it is for the purpose of fulfilling God’s Will, we must not let our hearts crumble even if all circumstances around us may crumble.

AMBITION took place at the Midtown Arts and Theater Center Houston on May 1-2. There were a total of 6 pieces in the show, with supplemental videos to further tell the story of trial and error. We saw many audience members be moved to tears and covered in prayer. We hope to continue to be a dance company that can share and encourage dancers and our Houston community to rely on and reach out to God during the times we are “crumbling” in our lives.

Ambition - DTD's New Dance on Film Work!

We are so excited to announce our newest dance on film work ‘Ambition’ funded in part by Houston Arts Alliance that has begun work and will be released this Spring 2023.

In November of 2022, we became one of the grantees of Houston Arts Alliance’s Let Creativity Happen Grant! We are truly thankful to HAA and God who are continuing to make progression in the arts possible!

About ‘Ambition’

‘Ambition’ is a dance on film project with a projected run time of approximately 10 minutes. The film will be available to watch via YouTube and Instagram TV, in addition to the small initial film viewing we plan to have in order to debut the film. ‘Ambition’ will incorporate contemporary and hip-hop dance styles. The film will be shot at both indoor and outdoor locations, and we will work with a Houston based videographer and editor. Costumes will be designed and created by Amanda Behic.

The concept of the film takes inspiration from a rock landscape with a descriptive story of how it fell 5 times in the creation process, but finally stood strong on the 6th attempt. With a group of 7 dancers, the dancers will symbolize each rock within the landscape to tell not only the story of the landscape being created, but how in our own lives there is a long creation process in order to reach our goals through keeping our ambition alive. As the rocks of the landscape rise and fall in the process of creation, the dancers will mimic that motion and work together to create the actual shape and design of the landscape.

DTD Presents: HERO: A Dance on Film Project

HERO is a dance on film project that highlights how faith provides human beings with the ability to become divine superheroes by learning and advancing in each stage of life. HERO will pair four stages of life; childhood, teenage years, adulthood, and old age with superhero characters to represent how each stage of life creates the heroes we are today. Both the dancers and audience will be taken through nostalgic and empowering visualizations of well-known superheroes we have seen on our televisions and on the big screen throughout our lives, and humanizes their experiences to create relatable yet divine and otherworldly choreographic portrayals.

To hear more about what heroes will be incorporated into this project, stay tuned for our hero reveals via Instagram and Facebook (@deeperthandanceorg).

DTD Presents: Deeper Than Distance

Deeper Than Dance Online Dance Video Showcase.PNG

We recently held our first ever livestream dance video viewing event titled “Deeper Than Distance.”

As many of our lives have become heavily run by online meetings and calls, we decided to use this virtual trend as a way to share art in the midst of national and global difficulties.

Streaming via Facebook Live, DTD had the chance to watch and communicate together with our viewers simultaneously! We compiled our earliest and most recent dance films and showcased them to our viewers as a way to remind everyone that art, dance, and our community are still very much alive and running!

Through just a short time spent watching dance, we hope that everyone who joined received grace and inspiration to continue creating and using this time to better ourselves individually in unison with God and our brothers and sisters in faith!

Hello all DTD supporters!

We recently wrapped up an amazing production titled "“FOURever” alongside Houston’s very own Sumni Boys and production studio Golden Path Studios. The theme of this performance was centered on the 4 elements of the earth. Just as the earthly elements must be in harmony in order for life to exist, the elements of our faith must be in harmony in order for our spirits to exist!

We paired each physical element with an element of faith; water-love, fire-truth, air-purity, earth-ideal world. We were challenged with a task to not only depict what first comes to mind when you hear “water” or “fire”, but the spiritual counterparts that were paired with them. On the process of creating each piece choreographer Mariah Henry says, “It was interesting having to relay the feeling of both the physical and spiritual aspects of these elements. It reminded me of the way music and dance are counterparts that truly exist in two worlds at once. I found that there is so much more to this concept that I don’t think my work with this theme is truly done yet…”

We give thanks to God, the Holy Spirit, and the Lord who made this performance so memorable and beautiful! Please be on the lookout for more projects soon!!
